Vero Beach, volume I

Wanted to share a few pictures and stories from the past week.
We started off by visiting Jekyll Island where the Georgia Sea Turtle Center - with a Sea Turtle Hospital and all. It was intriguing to read about the variety of work that the staff and volunteers do at the center. While visiting the learning stations, we were able to watch the staff clean the wound of a soft shell turtle who had been hit by a car and had his leg amputated. All the "kids" were amazed by the process and experiencing this place.
We then headed to Vero Beach and met up with Lauren and Michael at the Driftwood Inn and Suites - what a beautiful place. It was wonderful to stay at a place that had creative character and wasn't just another cookie cutter hotel or resort. The original owner created a unique look by building the first building with all driftwood, and now the buildings still have that appearance, though they have been rebuilt. There are tiles and relief sculptures on the walls, and floors and rod iron accessories in many nooks and used in furniture as well.
Every day we spent a few hours on the beach swimming and building sand castles. A few days we sat in the "breezeway" working on art and visiting over coffee while enjoying the wind and the shade. It was hotter than it normally is at this time of year. We did have a few days of scattered showers and marveled at the powerful waves and wind over the ocean.
Here are a few photo's... more to come as i settle back into a routine here in Ohio.
